Boost your skin

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! This is my message to you.

Menopause causes many changes to your skin. Fluctuating hormones can wreak havoc on your complexion. Skin can look dull and lacklustre, ultra-sensitive, dry and flaky, and with the sudden appearance of break outs during and after the menopause. When you add pigmentation and falling collagen levels to the mix, well what is a girl to do!

Now is the time to focus on beauty, regain your confidence and most of all be happy and comfortable in your own skin. We need to remember that there is no quick fix to the menopause, it is about finding what works best for each of us.

Your skin will have different requirements depending on what phase of menopause you are in, be it perimenopause, menopause or post menopause. Perimenopause can bring with it dry skin or skin prone to breakouts, with menopause the skin becomes drier and more sensitive due to the falling oestrogen levels. In the first 5 years of menopause we lose around 30% of our collagen and this is the biggest change with lines and wrinkles becoming more pronounced.

Start with the most basic and fundamental things you need to do to achieve good skin, no matter what age you are.

  • Eat well – fresh unprocessed foods with bundles of antioxidants
  • Drink 1.5-2 litres of water throughout the day
  • Cleanse using a mild low pH cleanser
  • Moisturise every day with a product designed to help fight fine lines and sagging
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen - the ultimate anti-aging product
  • Exfoliate once a week
  • Facial Massage promotes healthy skin
  • Daily exercise helps nourish the skin by increasing blood flow
  • Beauty sleep – at least 7 to 9 hours every night

A good routine starts with only a handful of products and the most basic steps. The above are the things we should all be doing and when menopause creeps up on us or should I say pounces on us, we need to make certain changes to our skincare routine. One day you look in the mirror and think “oh what is happening there as you notice a little sagging around the jawline!” But all is not lost! My favourite products and the products that work for me will be available in my boutique very soon.

A little piece of advice from me to you, keep your routine simple and easy to manage but keep it going. Find products that work for you, it can take time but it’s worth it in the end. When someone comments on your skin and says how well you look, it is not about age but about how good you look as a person at the age you are. That is good enough for me!
